Vaastu is an old discipline of creating a harmonious atmosphere that derives from the Vedas, a body of knowledge. This East Indian discipline is seven to ten thousand years old and predates mainstream Feng Shui by at least four thousand years.

Vaastu shastra teaches us how to build harmony and balance in our living and working environments, as well as how to appreciate our surroundings to benefit from nature’s assistance. You may feel nature’s oneness by following Vaastu principles. Vaastu provides several approaches to understanding ourselves and what we are in our purest form, as well as how we are related to the cosmos.

According to Vaastu, everything in the cosmos is formed of energy and is interrelated. According to Vaastu science, we are formed of the same five elements that make up our environment (earth, water, fire, air, and space). Because we are impacted by the same Natural Laws that affect our planet, our bodies may be viewed as the microcosm and our surroundings as the macrocosm. We all suffer when any portion of the world is affected. When these five components are out of balance owing to natural or man-made environmental stressors, Mother Nature has several ways to restore balance.

Earth changes occur when the five elements are disrupted on a global scale. Life today upsets the delicate equilibrium of the planet’s five elements. Natural disasters are nature’s way of rebalancing the system. Earthquakes occur when the earth element is out of equilibrium. Hurricanes and floods occur when the water element is disturbed. When there is a significant variation in the fire element, volcanic eruptions, drought, and forest fires occur. When the air element is disrupted, we get tornadoes and windstorms. When the ozone layer is lost and the space element is disturbed, harmful infrared radiation causes skin cancer.

To further comprehend how the five elements influence us on a human level, consider how individuals feel when the elements are out of harmony within our bodies:

We might feel heavy, sluggish, and lethargic when the earth element is out of harmony in our bodies. Emotionally, we may believe that there are impediments to receiving the help we need from others.

When the water element is out of equilibrium, we feel thirsty or fatigued. We may also feel disconnected from our spirituality.

We may get a fever, feel irritated, or even become furious when the fire element is out of harmony.

When the air element is out of equilibrium, we feel allergic, restless, or indecisive.

Each element corresponds to a distinct direction and can be balanced in our house or business. Here are some easy improvements we can do to improve our lives:

Plants in the southwest help to balance the earth’s elements. Plants absorb pollutants and aid in the cleaning of our surroundings. We may also balance the earth element by placing heavier things in the southwest corner of a room, home, or business. Heavier components put in this direction will provide energetic support and protection.

To balance the water element, place a fountain in the northeast. A fountain pointing in this direction will invigorate and cleanse our surroundings.

Drink enough fresh water to keep the fluid balance in your body to remove toxins and stay hydrated.

To save our valuable water supply, use low-flow water restrictors. We shall enjoy comfort and grace in our spiritual practice and money when the water element is balanced.

Full-spectrum lighting in all parts of the house and office, particularly in the southeast, can help to balance the fire element. To save energy, use low-wattage lights. Our health will improve when the fire element is balanced.

Open windows every morning, even if just for a few minutes, to balance the air element in the northwest. Regularly clean furnace filters. If you work in an office with no windows, use a negative-ion generator to bring more prana (life-force energy) into the room. This will improve mental clarity. When the air element is balanced, relationships improve.

One technique to assist balance the space aspect is to clear clutter and debris in all areas of the house or office. Remove the old to create a way for the new. By letting go of what no longer serves us, we make room to embrace our limitless potential.

We open the door to the flow of help the universe has to offer when we restore balance to the five elements in our homes, offices, and inside. Through these simple yet powerful ideas, we may improve the quality of our lives by respecting ourselves and our living and working environments as sacred. This is Vaastu’s Way.
